Overview

In view of the success of the two former meetings on "Magnetic Fields in the Universe: from Laboratory and Stars to Primordial Structures" (MFU I and MFU II), held in Angra dos Reis (Brasil) in December 2004, and in Cozumel, Mexico in February, 2008, respectively, a third edition is now planned and will be held in Zakopane, Poland, in August 21 - 27, 2011.

The Proceedings of the first edition of "Magnetic Fields in the Universe: from Laboratory and Stars to Primordial Structures" (MFU I) were edited by E. M. de Gouveia Dal Pino,  G. Lugones, A. Lazarian, American Institute of Physics, in the American  Institute of Physics  Conference Proceedings, volume 784 ,482 pages (845 pages on CDROM), ISBN 0-7354-0273-6,  2005): link

The Proceedings of the second edition of "Magnetic Fields in the Universe: from Laboratory and Stars to Primordial Structures" (MFU II) were edited by A. Esquivel, J. Franco, G. García-Segura, E. Scientific rationale

The scientific aim of the conference is to provide a natural continuation to the former editions, putting forward the most recent advances of theoretical and numerical studies, as well as new information gathered from observations.

The main topics of the meeting will be:

Specific issues to be addressed include the role of magnetic fields in solar and stellar coronae, accretion disks, jets and outflows, stellar and galactic winds, massive stars and in black holes.; We are going also to discuss its role in late stages of stellar evolution,; supernova remnants, interstellar clouds and in star formation. These topics will be discussed not only in the context of the Milky Way, but also in other galaxies. Particular subjects involve the structure of spiral and irregular galaxies, galactic nuclei, clusters of galaxies, as well as high redshift and primordial magnetic fields. Basic plasma and MHD astrophysical processes will also be addressed. In particular, we mean phenomena such as: the MHD turbulence, dynamos, the magnetic reconnection, magnetic instabilities and a magnetized dusty gas,. We will discuss these subjects using results of laboratory experiments and MHD of numerical modeling. The expected data on magnetic fields which will be gathered using new and forthcoming instruments (e.g. LOFAR, PLANCK, SOFIA, ALMA SKA, CTA, etc) will also be discussed.

The conference will consist of review and invited talks on themes of general interest, and also of a limited number of selected contributed oral presentations. We also plan the poster sessions on more specific topics. Poster contributions will be exhibited for the entire duration of the conference with special sessions devoted to them and also to ample discussions. In particular, we intend to provide a large amount of time for questions during all the sessions in order to make the discussions as fruitful as possible with the involvement of most of participants.
