Cyg X-1: geometry of the accretion flow and a model of the TeV emission

I will discuss two topics related to the high-mass X-ray binary Cyg X-1. The first topic is a study of the system geometry based on X-ray data. Using the precession of the accretion disc observed in Cyg X-1, we have discovered an accretion bulge at the disc outer edge formed by the shocked stellar wind. Second is a study of the TeV emission, which represents the first such emission from a confirmed accreting binary. We describe how that emission could originate from the black hole vicinity in spite of the strong photon-photon pair absorption.
